Playcentre runs 489 early childhood and family education centres from Kaitaia to Invercargill. Playcentres are managed and staffed by groups of trained parents working as a community cooperative, and provide half day learning sessions for children aged birth to school entry age, and parenting support and courses for their parents.

Each local Playcentre belongs to a regional association. The Playcentre Federation supports association personnel so they can support their centres in turn.
