Tamahere Playcentre offers both a very close relationship with its neighbouring school (Tamahere Model Country School) and a rare rural outlook. Situated just 6km from Hillcrest, Tamahere Playcentre has a roll covering the whole Playcentre age range (0-6) and several different nationalities.

Tamahere Playcentre has great families who do their best to make the sessions and the centre as attractive and as much fun as possible for the children who attend.

We have a great outdoor area with swings and a big tree, an excellent sandpit and fort/adventure play area, paved areas where we practice driving (complete with road signs!), there are often sheep over the fence and we have a wonderful playhouse in Playcentre colours!

Visitors are very welcome.

Every term we have a trip for each session day (i.e., Monday, Tuesday, Friday) to which all are invited.

Recent trips have included a working dairy farm, a donkey farm, and the zoo. During the sessions we have camping days (complete with tent and marshmallows over the fire), swimming days (with various pools set up around the centre), pet and nature day (featuring pet turtles and collected insects) and sports days on the school field (complete with medals). Regularly, and without pre-planning, we have cooking, finger-painting, water & sandpit activities, obstacle courses, ramp-work with our bikes, endless volcanoes and working in our herb or bark garden.

Besides the fundamental Playcentre activities – painting, clay, collage, carpentry, dress ups, the library, play dough, etc. – we are always doing something!

Tamahere Playcentre offers a unique environment, in that it is so close to the city yet so rural in aspect. The close relationship with the school next door offers many opportunities, as we attend their fairs and pet days, which offers positive experiences for the children in terms of transition to school. The Playcentre itself attracts great families and their great children, and everyone likes to be there for as long as possible!
