A Session Facilitator works alongside our parents/ caregivers and whānau on session to facilitate learning using child led play and positive guidance, support planning and assessment for learning and support parents in their role as Kaiako.  While role modelling Playcentre philosophy and current practices and fostering whānau-led culture, supporting emerging leadership and supporting parents in gaining the skills and tools to become more confident in running sessions themselves.

You will be a leader who encourages others to thrive; you will model Playcentre philosophy and good practice while supporting whānau to gain confidence to have a go themselves.

You will assist in the planning, delivery and evaluation of the Space Programme and work with babies and their whānau, ensuring participants are supported to build relationships with each other. As a Programme Facilitator, you and your co-facilitator will help parents and their babies connect with other new parents while exploring parenting, children’s development and most importantly, play, in a safe environment.

Space is an amazing programme that gives new parents the “village” they need to help raise their baby. Many Space members move on to become Playcentre families.

For both Session Facilitator and Programme Facilitator roles, there would be a total of 12-15 hours per week. For only one of these roles, there would be less hours. Hours vary across the week 3-7 hours per day with additional casual hours available from week to week.

This is a permanent position during term time only.

The Ideal Candidate will:

  • Have completed Playcentre Course 3, an equivalent ECE qualification, or higher, or be currently enrolled in Playcentre C-Series, an equivalent ECE qualification, or higher.
  • Or hold a Primary Teaching qualification and have completed or be prepared to complete the Primary Teaching Bridging Award.
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate or be prepared to complete this.

Desirable skills and experience will include:

  •  Knowledge and understanding of the value of Playcentre and its philosophy, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and using Te Reo on session; and how to apply Te Whāriki
  • The Programme Facilitator skills include;
    • An ability to support and empower parents, whanau and caregivers in their role as Kaiako
    • Great time management and with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and experience at centre level communicating with both tamariki and adults
  • The Programme Facilitator skills include;
    • A passion for working with new babies alongside parents and caregivers
    • Having great interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence speaking within a group
    • Having completed prior Space/ Babies Can Play training will be advantageous but is not necessary as we will provide this
