Nau mai, haere mai and welcome to Totaravale Playcentre
Playcentre is unlike any other early childhood education organisation. At Playcentre, both children and their parents / caregivers attend alongside their children and come together to plan with the specific interests, personalities, ages and passions of that specific group of children.
Totaravale Playcentre is a welcoming second home, with parents and children from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. We are open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for 0 – 6 year olds and Thursdays for 3.5 – 6 year olds (our Big Kids session). There is also a SPACE programme for bubbas on a Tuesday morning. Please see times below.
Each child is given the chance and freedom to explore, create, climb, read, sing, experiment, play music, wear costumes, paint, garden, do carpentry with real tools, bake and cook, build sandcastles, swing, slide, dance, spend time in nature and best of all – get messy!!
The wonderful activities Totaravale Playcentre offers changes every single day. Playcentre parents all bring different skills, interests, and cultural backgrounds to add to the rich learning environment. We go on exciting trips to extend learning, and also welcome guests to speak or teach us new skills at centre. Perhaps you have a unique passion or skill you’d like to share with the children too?
Playcentre welcomes families with children aged 0 – 6 years. Mixed age play allows children to engage with others older and younger than themselves creating a unique family to belong to. Tamariki learn how to communicate, share and negotiate with empathy for their peers.
We welcome you to visit any time during the year. Please visit our page at https://www.playcentre.org.nz/centre/totaravale/ to be in touch. You are entitled to three free visits just to see if it’s the place for you!
Have you heard negativity around how much work is involved in being a Playcentre parent? It is true – hard work and passion is a requirement! But the investment in your centre and your child and their friends means it’s extremely rewarding and worth it. The swings and roundabouts that all fellow Mums understand is that life with kids is unpredictable so we support each other to do our best on a daily basis, but keep in mind we are all human. The bonus of attending Playcentre is that you receive free education to enhance your own learning, but to also enrich your interactions with your children both at centre and outside centre in your daily parenting life. Please see more information about the education side of Playcentre at https://www.playcentre.org.nz/future-members/education/
In summary, the proverbial village is not dead – it is live and well at Totaravale Playcentre! See children delight in their surroundings- play with them, learn alongside them, encourage them to interact with others while you meet other parents and educators.
Parents are the first educators of children, and Playcentre fosters and nutures the involvement of whānau through this very special environment.
As a family, and as a community, you’ll build your own village with Playcentre, and you are guaranteed to make life-long friends along the way.
