Update 17 April 2020

Tēnā koutoa katoa

Along with other members of the Early Childhood Advisory Committee – representatives of the main ECE providers – I took part in a meeting with the Ministry of Education late yesterday. It was good to be able to have the Ministry clarify what moving to an Alert Level 3 will mean for Playcentre. While schools and Early Childhood centres will open under Level 3, Playcentre will not.

I understand this decision was made for parent-led services because of the need to limit the number of children and adults coming into contact with one another. The Ministry has also pointed out that such a move supports one of the core principles of Alert Level 3, that we are encouraged to remain at home and that children remain home with their family where possible.

In terms of our bulk funding, I understand that will continue. As always, we are working closely with the Ministry of Education over any further developments.

The Government has said it will be announcing when we move to Level 3 on Monday.

In the meantime, I hope you all have a good weekend.

Ka kite anō au i a koutou.
