10.1 What are Hazardous Materials?

The following materials were commonly used in NZ and are still prevalent in Playcentre Buildings:

Asbestos (ACM) – a naturally occurring mineral fibre that has been heavily used in various building products worldwide (e.g., roofs, wall cladding, and pipes).

Lead Based Paint (LBP) – was in common use in New Zealand buildings up until the 1980s. Stocks of some LBP were still in use well into the 1990s.
