Education Update

Education Chromebooks
We secured funding from TEC to purchase Chromebooks to assist students who do not have a suitable device to easily access online study from home. Although it is possible to work from a phone or tablet this is not ideal for all activities.
A Chromebook is also helpful for writing assessments. The Chromebook can be loaned to you if are doing modules online – currently you must be a student who has submitted an assessment to be eligible. Contact Glenda Caradus [email protected]  if you would like to borrow a Chromebook for online study.

Our first graduates are approaching the end of their studies

It is exciting to see around 50 learners are almost ready to do the final module in the NZ Certificate in ECE and Care Level 4. The last module will be ready during Term 4. Those who have completed C410 will get an invitation to join a group online as soon as this final module (C409) is available sometime soon after 1 November.  In the meantime, ensure your first aid certificate is less than three years old and arrange to have your practicum requirement verified from Discover – send the print-out to your Education Co-ordinator.

Planned Online Delivery Dates 2020 and 2021

Ten online courses are regularly run for around 300 participants each month.  Here is the information about what will be available online for the end of this year and beginning of next year.

Register your interest to start an online module on the Playcentre website – we form as many groups as needed for each start date – if you are eligible you receive an access email on the start date or the next day -for example, if we set up two groups for 1 Nov, they will begin 1 Nov and 2 Nov.

*End Date indicates end of “live access” with tutor support – past courses can be read beyond the end date & assessment can be submitted beyond this date.

 Tips for online students

  • Please use one email address for all your online courses. Your email address is used to create a log in for you on the i-Qualify learning platform. When you register for subsequent courses you should use the same email then your current course and read only access to any past courses will all be in the same account.
  • If online, please submit your assessment online – do not send it to your regional assessment email.

Face-to face Delivery

Remember many courses are also available face-to face and are advertised by region on the Playcentre website. It is really good to join an in-person group to do B401 and B402 with other local Playcentre people and we would encourage you to do this.

 Clarification about the Programme

  • The C405 module is delivered in two parts: Part A and Part B – you do both Part A and Part B.
  • The C408 module now has only two assessment tasks: ‘Lead a Team’ and ‘Lead a Meeting’. The proposed task ‘Observe a meeting’ has been dropped. All students, including C3 transitioning students, do both tasks that remain.

Quick Answers to recent questions

Q: Is Course 2 continuing for licensing and is it the same as the PEA?

A: Yes, Course 2 will be recognised for licensing as interchangeable with the PEA until 31 Dec 2021. This does not mean a C2 is equivalent or the same as a PEA.

Q:  Do my transition credits expire?

A: Transition credits (the credit you get for a completed C2 or C3 when you transfer into the new L4 NZ Certificate programme) do not “expire”. You can still start and receive the same credit as someone who started in 2018 and this will not change unless the programme changes sometime in the future.
