Funding for Playcentres – Top Tip for May

It is always preferred that funding applications get paid to your centre rather than into the Playcentre Aotearoa account. This makes the accountability process a lot simpler, especially for wages.

Upcoming Funding Rounds

** Please note: Always check-in with individual funders BEFORE YOU APPLY. While every effort has been made to ensure information given is correct at the time of publication, funding availability and other details may change frequently. **

COGS – National

Opens on 20 April and closes 18 May. There are a handful of Centres that are incorporated and can apply to COGS. I have sent an email to these Centres already as a reminder to apply.

At this stage, it is not possible for other centres to become incorporated and apply to COGS.

Meridian Power Up – White Hill Southland (24 Sep)

If you live in a community near one of their hydro or wind farms, you can apply. Check the objectives for each region.

PGG Wrightson Cash for Communities – rural communities

Register your Playcentre on the website, then promote the program to your local community and farmers. When PGG Wrightson account holders purchase Ballance Agri-Nutrients fertiliser, they can nominate your centre against their account. $1 per tonne purchased will be donated.

Digital Wings – National

The Digital Wings programme enables the distribution of electronic equipment (laptops, desktop computers and printers) from corporate donors to community organisations to enhance educational and employment opportunities. Charities, whānau / hapū and community organisations are invited to apply for refurbished computers to support their goals and outcomes, free of charge.

Preference is given to organisations working in rangatahi, youth development and education to employment initiatives. Please note that supply is dependent upon donation stock available and allocation to community is at the discretion of the Digital Wings Trustees. Please also note Digital Wings does not supply computers to individuals or private homes and they do not have ipads or tablets as the donations are from businesses.

The Trusts Community Foundation

Please note that the closing date for applications has changed from the 10th of each month to the 1st of each month.

Lottery National Community Fund

I have been in talks with the Department of Internal Affairs and will be applying in the round that closes in July for funding support towards vulnerable centres and first aid training. When the results are known in late October, I will work with the Regional Managers on the allocation of these funds. Centres do not need to put in an application. Successful centres will be asked to complete a short survey on the impact of the funding.

Shout Out from Mamaranui Playcentre

Mamaranui Playcentre would like to say a BIG thank you to Dulux for donating paint to rejuvenate our fences, and to Kaihu Valley Sawmill for their ongoing donations which have helped us build some much-needed storage shelves. We really appreciate their support for our small rural centre, helping us to have an awesome facility for our tamariki.

If you have a ‘Shout Out’ you would like featured as a thank you to a funder or company who has supported your Centre, please email Tonya on [email protected]

Discounts for Playcentres

Have you seen the “Centre Discounts” page on the members section of the website?

There are discounts from the Playcentre shops, Red Cross, Harvey Norman, Resene, Ecostore, Idealcup, NZ Facilities Maintenance and Exult.

If you have a business you would like us to approach and ask for a discount for Playcentre, please email Tonya on [email protected]

Grants Support

Some of the areas I can help with are to provide an affiliation letter or Spotlight (finance) report, point you in the direction of who might be suitable to apply to, help you with some benefits and outcomes or be there for struggling centres that need a lot of help with their application. You can email me on [email protected]. To support as many centres as possible and ensure quality applications, if you need me to review your application, please send it to me at least one week before the closing date.

You can also find lots of information to assist you with your funding applications on the Grants section of the Playcentre website (you need to first be logged in as a member).
