Being a registered charity gives you certain advantages, such as not having to pay income tax and offering a tax rebate to donors. Each Playcentre needs to register individually but, once registered, can join the Playcentre Aotearoa charity group. Joining the group means that you don’t have to file annual financial statements to remain a charity – you just need to keep your officer details up to date on the Charities website.

If you are thinking about registering as a charity, we advise that you wait until after the Special General Meeting on the 24th of September, when changes to the Playcentre Aotearoa Trust Deed are being considered. If the changes are approved, all Centres who choose to join Playcentre Aotearoa will have charitable status.
