Te Whānau Tupu Ngātahi o Aotearoa – Playcentre Aotearoa is a well known and loved Early Childhood organisation with over 80 years of supporting parents to take the lead in their children’s learning through play. Playcentre operates 400 Playcentres throughout the country and has just over 700 staff members who are employed in and over a number of roles.   

Otaua Aka Aka Playcentre are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Big Kids Facilitator to join our well-resourced and vibrant Playcentre Community. You will work alongside our members and tamariki to guide session activities, facilitate learning using child led play and positive guidance, support the writing of learning stories and positively support the Playcentre education programme.   

Purpose of the position:   

To plan and run Big Kids session, ensuring the session runs smoothly for children (aged between 3 and 6 years old), and ensuring parents are supported in their role as Kaiako and children’s needs are catered for.  This position focuses on ensuring big kids’ sessions are run safely, to extend play and develop children’s learning potential, and to better cater to older preschool children.

Days & hours:

Thursday 9.00am – 2.00pm including 1-hour non-contact. This is a permanent position during term time only.

We will be reviewing applications upon receipt and ideal candidate may be appointed before closing date

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Playcentre Course 3 qualification or higher or an Early Childhood qualification of Level 4 or higher.   
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate or be willing to achieve this.
  • Hold a Playcentre Educator Award or higher qualification

Desirable skills and experience will include:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Whāriki and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • A passion for Playcentre and our philosophy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with tamariki and adults.
  • Passion for empowering and engaging with all whānau to feel a sense of belonging on our sessions. 
  • Knowledge of ECE regulations
  • Ability to use technology
