Formed in 1941, Te Whānau Tupu Ngātahi o Aotearoa – Playcentre Aotearoa is a licenced early childhood education provider and charitable trust. About the role:
The Big Kids Session Facilitator designs and leads meaningful “big kids” sessions that spark curiosity and supports learning. You will be responsible for managing a group of up to 10 children, alongside 2 other parents. Some experience around supervising children outdoors is beneficial.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Designing engaging sessions that bring Te Whāriki to life and extend children’s learning through rich, imaginative play.
- Observing, assessing, and planning for each child while maintaining a safe, supportive, and independence-building environment.
- Collaborating with parents to support school readiness and uphold Playcentre Aotearoa philosophy.
- Working with parents to create a safe, positive environment while responding to each child’s strengths, interests, and developmental needs.
Position details:
- Commencing 26 January 2026
- Tuesdays 9:15am – 1:15pm, 4 hours per week
- Permanent position during school term time only

About you:
You are organised, adaptable, and committed to ongoing learning while ensuring a safe, positive environment for older preschoolers. You can confidently support quality Playcentre sessions while also applying Te Whāriki in meaningful ways.
You will also have:
- Minimum Course 3 of the Playcentre Education Diploma or equivalent ECE Qualification (L4 or above desired)
- Current First Aid Certificate or be willing to achieve this
- Confidence in planning learning experiences, writing learning stories, and applying child-led practice.
- Approachable communicator with strong positive guidance and child wellbeing knowledge.
- Works independently, adapts easily, and provides practical solutions.
- NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
