Formed in 1941, Te Whānau Tupu Ngātahi o Aotearoa – Playcentre Aotearoa is a licenced early childhood education provider and charitable trust. With a philosophy of empowering ‘parents as first educators’, Playcentre seeks to empower whānau and tamariki to work, play, learn and grow together, and today has over 400 centres nationwide.

About the role:

The Centre Advisor supports Playcentres across the Coromandel/Whitianga region by guiding best practice, ensuring compliance, and fostering strong relationships with staff, whānau, and tamariki.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee day-to-day centre operations, ensure statutory requirements are met, and lead preparation for ERO visits.
  • Work closely with centre staff and whānau, provide guidance based on identified needs, and maintain strong links with the Regional Office.

Position details:

  • Role commences 20 January 2026.
  • Tuesdays & Fridays 8:30am – 2:00pm (including 30min unpaid break) and Wednesdays 1:00pm – 3:00pm, 12 hours per week
  • Permanent position during school term time only plus 1 week during each school holiday

About you:

You are comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, display strong organisational capability, and uphold high standards of professionalism and integrity in all aspects of the role.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Strong relationship and leadership capabilities, able to influence, communicate confidently, and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of ECE frameworks and te ao Māori – including Te Whāriki, legislation, mātauranga Māori, tikanga, and Te Tiriti principles.
  • Independent, resilient, and detail focused. Able to manage issues as they arise, work with accuracy, maintain good judgement, and bring a positive, can-do mindset.
  • Must hold NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
