Assistant Accountant - National Service Centre

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Assistant Accountant who is looking for an opportunity to gain broad experience in a well-loved community organisation.  This role will suit someone who wants to spread their wings and be part of the “big picture”.

The Assistant Accountant will be part of our small, friendly Finance team and will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer to be involved in, and exposed to, all financial aspects of Playcentre Aotearoa. You will have sole accountability for a variety of tasks and will be well supported by the Chief Financial Officer in the undertaking of other tasks and responsibilities.

Full training and mentoring will be provided, and the scope of your responsibilities will grow as you grow your capabilities. This is an excellent role for the development of your accounting career.

Position details:

This is a 30 hour per week permanent position working from the National Service Centre in Mana, Porirua.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparation and management of financial and management reporting
  • Assisting in preparation and completion of end of year financials
  • Working with Regional and National Managers on budgets and spending
  • Supporting and working with Centre Treasurers on their financial processes
  • Monitoring and supporting new asset requirements and undertaking purchasing
  • Undertaking value for money analysis to ensure optimum use of the organisation’s resources

Desired skills and experience:

  • Relevant business/accounting related qualification
  • Experience in accounting
  • Excellent computer skills – Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Good relationship skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Self-driven with a can-do attitude and a positive outlook
  • Exposure to Xero an advantage
  • Member of CAANZ with Accounting Technician designation is desirable
