Big Kids Facilitator – Birkenhead Playcentre

Birkenhead Playcentre are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Big Kids Facilitator to join our well-resourced and vibrant Playcentre Community. You will work alongside our members and tamariki to guide session activities, facilitate learning using child led play and positive guidance, support the writing of learning stories and positively support the Playcentre education programme.

Purpose of the position: 

To plan and run Big Kids session, ensuring the session runs smoothly for children (aged between 3 and 6 years old), and ensuring parents are supported in their role as Kaiako and children’s needs are catered for.  This position focuses on ensuring big kids’ sessions are run safely, to extend play and develop children’s learning potential, and to better cater to older preschool children.

Position location:

Birkenhead Playcentre, 16 Recreation Drive, Birkenhead, Auckland

Hours:

1 session per week – 4 hours on Wednesdays. Term time only.  

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Playcentre Course 3 qualification or higher, or an Early Childhood qualification;
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate; or be prepared to achieve this.

Desirable skills and experience will include:

  • A passion for Playcentre and our philosophy;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience at Centre level with tamariki and adults;
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Te Whāriki and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi;
  • Ability to support and empower parents, whānau and caregivers in their role as Kaiako;
  • Passion for supporting Te Reo Māori and tikanga and engaging all whānau to feel a sense of belonging on our sessions
