Education Support Worker – Onehunga Playcentre (Fixed term)


Onehunga Playcentre are seeking an excellent communicator and team player to work closely with families to provide support to tamariki with additional learning needs by maximising learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.

Purpose of this position:

The Education Support Worker provides one on one support to tamariki with particular development requirements. The role partners with other educators in Playcentre to enable tamariki to attend their centre and learn alongside their peers and be fully included.

Onehunga Playcentre , 47 Hill Street, Onehunga, Auckland 1081


3 hours per week. Thursday mornings. Term time only. This is a fixed term appointment ending on 5 July 2023.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Playcentre Course 3 qualification, or higher Early Childhood Education qualification;
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate or be prepared to complete this.

Desirable skills and experience will include:

  • A passion for Playcentre and our philosophy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience at Centre level with tamariki and adults.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Te Whāriki and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Passion for supporting Te Reo Māori and tikanga and engaging all whānau to feel a sense of belonging on our sessions.
  • Have experience of working with young tamariki with additional learning needs.
