We’re looking for a kaiwhakaihuwaka Māori – a champion for te ao Māori, to provide advice to enact the strategic plan and support Playcentre with incorporating and embedding Te Ao Māori into its service.  Join a supportive workplace with an excellent team culture and rewarding vision and help us lead our Playcentre whānau to success in this unique and challenging role.

This role is based at the Upper North Island regional office in Henderson, Auckland.

It is a part time role, 20 hours per week.

This position will begin 17 October 2022, the start date is negotiable.   

The right person will:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of Te Ao Māori
  • Have an appreciation for matauranga Māori, tikanga Māori and te reo Māori
  • Recognise and understand the principles of Te Tiriri o Waitangi

Duties include, but not limited to: 

  • Collaboratively supporting and guiding kaimahi and whānau to develop Playcentre’s cultural capability
  • Supporting Rōpū to function effectively
  • Contributing to the development of a Te Ao Māori delivery model
  • Identifying key local and Te Ao Māori relationships and building reciprocal relationships and partnerships and supporting kaimahi and whānau to build and sustain those connections. 

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Prior experience in a similar position
  • Demonstrates the principles and values of Te Whare Tikanga Māori
  • Comfortable in a leadership role and displays honesty, discretion, sensitivity, self-discipline and resilience
  • ECE or Playcentre experience or knowledge is useful
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Organised – excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Flexibility to travel and work remotely as required from time to time
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and growth
