Opotiki Playcentre on Goring Street have a part-time Session Facilitator position to fill.

Hours

Tuesday and Thursday 8.45am to 12.30pm – 7.5 hours per week

About the role

Playcentre is whanau-led and follows a philosophy of parents as first and best teachers. Playcentre believes that children thrive when their whanau are actively engaged in their learning and education.

We are looking for someone to assist us in providing parents and caregivers with the tools and knowledge in running successful play sessions at our centre.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting parents and caregivers in their responsibilities of the operations and administration during a centre session.
  • Encouraging parents’ role as Kaiako to support their children’s needs, learning and development through activities and play.
  • Support centre members in understanding Te Whāriki curriculum and developing their knowledge of learning through play.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum Playcentre Course 3, NZ Cert (level 4) or above – or equivalent ECE qualification
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to apply Te Whāriki
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Ability to pass safety checking (including police vet)
  • Good understanding of positive guidance and the Vulnerable Children’s Act.
