Session Facilitator – Casual Reliever Selwyn Area


Purpose of the Position

To assist parents and caregivers on session to ensure sessions run smoothly, ensuring parents are supported in their role as kaiako and children’s needs are catered for, that their play learning and development is enhanced, as well as role modelling Playcentre Philosophy and current practices. To help centre members understand the key components of excellent practice at Playcentre, and how each person can contribute to this. To foster a whānau-led culture and support emergent leadership, by helping centre members gain knowledge and understanding, and increase confidence in centre members to take on more and more of running sessions themselves.

This is a Casual position relieving at centres in the Selwyn region.

  • You would be working on a day-to-day (on call) basis, and would only be required to work as needed from time to time to cover facilitators who are not able to work that day
  • Sessions take place during School Term time only
  • This role will begin as soon as possible, again – on an as needed basis

 The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Playcentre Course 3 or an equivalent, or higher ECE qualification.
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate or be prepared to achieve this.

Desirable skills and experience will include:

  • A passion for working with children aged 0 – 6 years alongside parents and caregivers;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the value of Playcentre and its philosophy;
  • Knowledge and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and using Te Reo on session;
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to apply Te Whāriki;
  • Great time management and communication skills;
  •  An ability to support and empower parents, whānau and caregivers.
  •  A willingness to upskill and meet new Playcentre qualification requirements as required;
