Session Facilitator - Richmond Playcentre

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Session Facilitator to join our well-resourced and vibrant Playcentre, to support out tamariki, parents and whānau in leading rewarding sessions. You will work alongside our duty team to guide session activities, facilitate learning using child-led play and positive guidance, followed by writing learning stories about the experiences that have taken place.

Purpose of the Position:

To assist parents and caregivers on session to ensure sessions run smoothly, ensuring parents are supported in their role as kaiako and children’s needs are catered for, that their play learning and development is enhanced, as well as role modelling Playcentre Philosophy and current practices. To help centre members understand the key components of excellent practice at Playcentre, and how each person can contribute to this. To foster a whānau-led culture and support emergent leadership, by helping centre members gain knowledge and understanding, and increase confidence in centre members to take on more and more of running sessions themselves.

Location and hours:

  • Richmond Playcentre, Invercargill 3 sessions per week – Monday, Tuesday & Friday 9am – 12.30pm (30 minutes of non-contact time per session) 10. hours per week, during school term time. Start date as soon as possible.

To meet licensing requirements, the Ideal Candidate will:

  • Hold a Playcentre Course 4 or higher or Level 4 Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care, or an equivalent ECE qualification.
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate.

Desirable skills and experience will include:

  • A passion for working with children aged 0 – 6 years alongside parents and caregivers;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the value of Playcentre and its philosophy;
  • Knowledge and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and using Te Reo on session;
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of how to apply Te Whāriki;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with all ages;
  • An ability to support and empower parents, whānau and caregivers.
  • Great time manangement;
  • A willingness to upskill and meet new Playcentre qualification requirements as required;
