Session Support Worker – Hunterville Playcentre (Fixed term)

Hunterville Playcentre are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Session Support Worker with a passion for facilitating child led play.  We are a well-resourced centre with a spacious outdoor area for active play and exploration.  You will work alongside our Centre whānau to guide and inspire session activities, promote positive guidance, increase use of Te Reo Māori, support the writing of learning stories, promote the Playcentre Education while supporting whānau with exploring their light bulb moments. We are all about mentoring and supporting parents/whānau /members/tamariki as they explore and learn with their children during these very special years.

Purpose of the position:

To assist parents/ caregivers and whanau on session to ensure sessions run smoothly, parents are supported in their role as kaiako and children’s needs are catered for, while role modelling Playcentre philosophy and current practices.

Days & hours:

Wednesday & Fridays 8.45am – 12.45pm (8 hours per week). Term time only. This is a fixed term appointment ending on 16 December 2022.


Hunterville Playcentre, located at 17 Bruce Street, Hunterville.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Playcentre Course 3 qualification, or an Early Childhood Education qualification;
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate or be prepared to complete this.

Skills and experience required:

  • A passion for Playcentre and our philosophy;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience at Centre level with tamariki and adults;
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Te Whāriki and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi;
  • Ability to support and empower parents, whānau and caregivers in their role as Kaiako;
  • Passion for supporting Te Reo Māori and tikanga and engaging all whānau to feel a sense of belonging on our sessions.
