Te Ao Māori Field Worker

Based at the Central North Regional Office in Hamilton, this role is working to ensure Te Ao Māori is incorporated into everday Playcentre life. You will work closely with the national Māori Development Manager to roll out initiativates and strategies to the region.

About role

Based at the Central North Regional Office in Hamilton, this role is working to ensure Te Ao Māori is incorporated into everday Playcentre life. You will work closely with the national Māori Development Manager to roll out initiativates and strategies to the region. You will assist employees and volunteers within the region to understand Māori traditions and values, and how these should be part of the fabric of Playcentre. The role will also support Rōpū Māori to function effectively which for this region may mean travel from time to time to the Bay of Plenty and Gisborne areas. The role will include some aspects of networking with local Māori organisations and Marae. You will need to understand Pou Kipa (achieving equitable education outcomes for Māori) and how to encourage this within the region.

Hours

10 hours per week (preferability across the 52 weeks of the year

Skills and Experience Required

· Previous experience in sharing/developing Te Ao Māori with others;

· Ability to use te reo Māori and experience in engaging with tikanga Māori in a variety of settings;

· Strong people skills and effective listening skills;

· Strong communication skills (both oral and written);

· Playcentre experience and knowledge.
