This year, Playcentre is proudly celebrating 85 years of whānau playing, learning and growing together — and you’re part of that legacy.
The first Playcentre in New Zealand opened on 2 April in 1941 in Karori, Wellington.
For 85 years, Playcentre has thrived because of the incredible dedication of whānau like you to our kaupapa of parents as first and best educators of their tamariki. Every day, through the big moments and the small, you contribute to something truly powerful: strong communities, thriving tamariki, and confident parents and leaders.
Join the Celebration!
We’d love to have you involved in marking this milestone. Here’s how you can take part:
- Share your Playcentre stories — memories, moments, or what Playcentre means to your whānau. Please pass this link onto any past Playcentre members/whānau. We’d love to hear from them too.
- Celebrate with your local centre — join in on anniversary events being held across the mōtu.
Together, we look forward to spreading the word about the value of whānau-led learning in Aotearoa
Thank you for everything you bring to our community. Here’s to 85 years — and to all the play, learning and growth still to come!
