Playcentre education courses
Our Playcentre Educator Modules include PE4 Te Kākano – Te Reo me ōna Tikanga Māori. This free module covers:
- The importance of revitalising te reo Māori for our tamariki
- Basic pronunciation – words and phrases to use at home and Playcentre
- Te Ao Māori principles that underpin learning and growing together
- Waiata songs, pūrakau stories and kēmu games

Begin your journey into Te Reo Māori – a treasured language, a living voice, and a source of connection and wellbeing. Consider enrolling in one of these Te Reo Māori courses, some are short term and have online delivery, most of them are free, so, encourage a friend to join with you.
Te Wānanga o Aotearoa:
Te Wānanga o Aotearoa offers people, with any level of ability, an entry point to learn and deepen their understanding of Māori culture. Courses range from beginners to advanced (Level 1 to 7), fees free, and options for online, home-based, and classroom settings.
Poupou Huia Te Reo 1:
Poupou Huia Te Reo 1 is a 20 week online Māori language course suited to language learners at the beginner to intermediate level.
Poupou Huia Te Reo 2:
Poupou Huia Te Reo 2 is a level 5 online Māori language certificate teaching everyday Māori language relevant to the home, the whānau and the wider community. It is the sequel to the Poupou Huia Te Reo 1 online certificate.
Te Pōkaitahi Reo Level 1:
Te Pōkaitahi Reo Level 1 is a beginner programme designed for people with little or no prior Māori language skill.
Toro Mai:
Toro Mai is a guided journey of learning to deepen your understanding and awareness of Māori knowledge with Toro Mai.
Te Rito Maioha:
Offers short free introduction courses online learning, Te Reo Māori, Tikanga, Te Whāriki and more, Certificate of completion.
Te Ataarangi:
Te Ataarangi uses rākau rods as a visual aid in learning te reo. Open to all ages and stages, fee or koha based
Tōkū Reo TV Series:
Each episode has its own relevant activities and exercises allowing people to practise and develop language skills at your own pace, no fees, easy for beginners.
