Funding for Playcentres

I am passionate about supporting centres with their grant funding applications. Some of the areas I can help with are – provide an affiliation letter or Spotlight report, point you in the direction of who might be suitable to apply to, help you with some benefits and outcomes or be there for struggling centres that need a lot of help with their application. You can email me on [email protected].

Top Tip for October (thank you to Exult)

** Funders often have hundreds of applications to sift through so you need to make sure you stand out from the crowd. Create a strong and compelling vision that communicates your WHY. The reason your Playcentre exists. The difference your centre wants to make in your local community. Your vision is a strong tool to enable your application to connect with the funder on an emotional level. Watch this YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ytFB8TrkTo) by comedian Michael Jr. for a great example of the power of knowing your centre’s why.

Why should you focus on your why? Organisations don’t fund what you do, they fund why you exist. Yet so many applications focus on the what or how of Playcentre. While funders want to get a snapshot of what you do on a day-to-day basis (your mission), they really want to know WHY you exist (your vision). Check out this edited TED talk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ss78LfY3nE) by Simon Sinek, then get great at articulating your why. A question to consider to help you get to your why – if your centre was doing everything 100% right, what would your community look like as a result?

When you put your mission and your vision together, you have your elevator pitch. The first thing you share about your centre, in the brief moment you are introduced and have the full attention of the person you are speaking to. The main point that you lead with in your application to make you stand out. **

Shout Out

Narrowneck Playcentre recently got funding from the Devonport – Takapuna Local Board Quick Response Grants Round 2 2021.

“Our centre was in need of some new crash mats to meet health and safety requirements. We applied for funding for 75% of the cost of two new crash mats, one to fit under our monkey bars to provide a soft landing for our tamariki when they are swinging through the air, and the other a large square mat to jump / spin / tumble onto from our large climbing boxes and other equipment.

We were delighted when we were notified that the funding had been approved and our tamariki were able to enjoy using the new mats prior to lockdown. This new equipment has enhanced our Playcentre environment for the benefit of our tamariki and kaiako so huge thanks to Devonport – Takapuna Local Board for enabling the purchase of the mats.”

If your centre would like to thank a funder, please email me on [email protected] Stories may also feature on the Playcentre Aotearoa Facebook page and in The Little Villager.

Ecostore continue to honour the special arrangement with Playcentre whereby they make their products available to Playcentre at wholesale.

The wholesale rates especially for bulk sizes are a lot cheaper than the regular retail prices for Ecostore products so Centres are guaranteed a good deal.

Ecostore usually require an order minimum of $200 for wholesale orders and charge freight to deliver the products to wholesale customers.

Under their special Playcentre offer, the minimum order amount is reduced to $75 (very achievable) and they deliver the products to the Centre freight free nationwide.

Please note that they do require orders in full carton quantities if Centres are ordering our retail size products. This means you can’t just order one bottle of hand wash 425ml for example, but will have to take a whole box of 3 bottles.

This does NOT apply to the commercial 5L and 20L sizes which can be ordered as individual bottles.

To place a wholesale order centres will need to email their customer service team directly ([email protected]) – an online portal is being developed.

To become a wholesale customer of Ecostore, all the Centre has to do is contact our customer service team ([email protected]), complete the account application and then ensure that your order volume meets the $75 per order threshold. EASY!

Discounted rates for their reusable cups are available for Playcentres at $8.50 + GST per cup. In order to receive the discount, email Fiona McAllister (Office Manager) at [email protected]. https://idealcup.co.nz/ 04 282 0494

To access discounts for products being used at your Playcentre, take a letter from your Playcentre explaining the paint project/expected paint/product needed (approximate is fine) into your local Resene owned ColorShop and ask for the EC41 Playcentre discount. The discount depends on the products you buy – your local Resene owned ColourShop will talk you through options. E.g. for some, if you don’t care about the colour, you could look at mistints.
