Infant Programmes
Overview
Playcentres welcome children from age 0-6, and infants are welcome to attend most Playcentre sessions and participate in the regular activities. However, we also offer more specialised sessions where there is a real focus on the needs of newborns to 1 year olds, as well as the support and friendship of other new parents. SPACE programmes
At Space you and your baby will connect with other new parents and their babies, to explore parenting and children’s development in a safe, facilitated environment. Your Space group will meet weekly, giving you and your baby the chance to make real connections during your baby’s first year.
Space groups are run by trained facilitators who are passionate about supporting new parents and babies. You and your baby will explore music and movement, crafts, books and a variety of play experiences. You will discover ways to support and extend your baby’s learning and development, including ideas for play experiences at home.
You will get to consider different parenting perspectives, perhaps find out some new information, and have some great, facilitated discussions as you discover ways that work for you and your baby.
Babies Can Play
Babies Can Play is a programme for parents with infants from 6 months to 2 years, usually following on from our Space programme. Offered at selected Playcentres nationwide, Babies Can Play provides a supportive space where both you and your baby can learn, grow, and connect.
Weekly sessions bring families together to build friendships and a strong support network. There is dedicated time for discussion and reflection, allowing parents to share experiences, explore parenting ideas, and grow in confidence.
Sessions focus on learning through play, with rich opportunities for sensory play, stories, and music to support infant development. Experienced facilitators guide the sessions, and tailor discussions to the needs and interests of the group, creating a nurturing space where whānau feel supported and connected.
Programmes typically run for 10–20 weeks, excluding school holidays.
