Playcentre Education enrolments

We hope that Term 2 will be a big term for Playcentre Education enrolments. With the Omicron surge behind us, Term 2 is a great time to encourage whānau to try something new and enrol in the Playcentre Education programme – the first four modules in particular have been designed to give whānau a practical, hands-on grasp on how to be an amazing parent and Playcentre kaiako. The rest of the modules are great for those who’d like to take their learning to the next level.

Benefits of Playcentre Education

  • Discover how children learn: “Doing Playcentre Education has enriched not only my life, but it has opened my eyes to the world of how children learn and develop.”
  • Connection with others: “I loved learning alongside other adults. I met people I would not normally have met and stepping outside my comfort zone… and made new friends.”
  • Understanding schemas: “Schemas was such a highlight for me. I learnt my child is not being ‘naughty’. They have a schema which is an urge, and they are learning. It made me look at it in a different way and now I can come up with ideas to help support them.”
  • Increase your confidence: “Playcentre Education has given me so much confidence in interacting with other children.”
  • Learn new skills: “What I learnt in the PIA I would never have learnt anywhere else.”
  • Learn te reo Māori: “Learning about te reo Māori made me confident with pronouncing place and people’s names.”

Getting started

Remember that all ākonga (learners) start with B401 Kia Tākaro | Let’s Play and there are three options on how to do this module: face-to-face workshops, webinar workshops or self-paced iQualify online. Each option suits different learners – face-to-face is great for those who enjoy discussion and learning alongside others; webinars have that benefit but are accessible from home or your centre; iQualify online has less interaction with others but can be done anytime and anywhere with an internet connection. Centres can request to host face-to-face workshops if your local centres have a group ready to get started.

We encourage centre members to support each other to make a start and continue with education. Doing education on session is a great use of your time – many of the practical tasks are things you are already doing at Playcentre like setting up invitations to play and writing learning stories. Encourage and support each other to do as much of this as possible while at centre. We’ve scheduled some webinars during morning timeslots with the hope that centre members will support each other to look after tamariki on session so that parents can sneak away to a quiet corner and join the webinars from centre or home.

We are running regular information sessions for new students – details are available on the Playcentre website Enrolment Information | Playcentre

Education programme review: Your feedback

As part of striving for excellence, Playcentre Education has recently started a full review of our programme and delivery. We would like to invite centres and staff to share how effectively the education programme is supporting your members to be kaiako at Playcentre. We ask that your feedback is about the current Level 4 certificate (including PIA and PEA) from the last 12 months.
