Te Wiki o te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week

13 – 19 Hepetema/Māhuru 2022

“Ko tōku reo, tōku ohooho

Ko tōku reo, tōku māpihi maurea

Ko tōku reo, tōku whakakai marihi”

My language is my cherished possession

My language is the object of my affection

My language is my precious adornment

Māhuru or September is a wonderful time of the year when we celebrate and honour the Māori language from 13-19 September. Te Reo Māori as our indigenous language is a unique taonga to be treasured by all New Zealanders.

This year, as part of Te wiki o Te Reo Māori we would like everyone no matter how big or small to participate in Māori language week, whether you are a mokopuna, mātua, Kaiako, kaimahi or kaiwhakahaere, everybody no matter who or where you are, can contribute to Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori in Playcentre.

We will have a national challenge, going up on the website over the next few weeks, and we’ll be sharing whakataukī and kīwaha on our Facebook page throughout Te Wiki and right through September, so be sure to karawhiua – give it a go!

Pass the Poi competition

This year we have a Poi Atu Rā whakataetae- Pass the Poi competition for those who participate in our challenges being run during Māori language week. Let’s get together whānau and have fun with Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori!
