Maihiihi

Come and join us for an exciting, fun time at Maihiihi Playcentre.

We are a rural centre situated opposite the local school, offering two general sessions open to all ages from birth to 6 on Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30am till 12.00pm

We believe that as parents, we are the best early childhood educators for our children. At Maihiihi Playcentre we have a nurturing, stimulating and supportive environment in which children thrive and learn.

Adults and children learn from each other during play that is child-initiated. We provide an atmosphere that is inclusive for all families from all cultures and backgrounds. All children and parents are valued members of our playcentre team, and all members are considered to be partners in our children’s early education.

Each term we have a few fun excursions for all adults and children to come along to, some examples of these are Leap (trampoline place), Lake Arohena with kayaks and a picnic, Museum’s, beaches and swimming. The children benefit from these by learning in a different environment which has new and exciting things to do and experience.

Our centre is a large centre on large grounds, the grounds go all the way around our building and includes a forest, sandpit, wendy house, carpentry shed, mud kitchen, swings, slides, outdoor climbing equipment, bikes, trees, bugs hunts, vegetable gardens and fruit trees.

Inside we have role play area, baby area, blocks, dress ups, face paint, music, playdough, books and puzzles, science, collage table, cooking as well as a paint area out on the deck.

There is something for everyone at Maihiihi Playcentre.

At Playcentre, early childhood education is a shared journey. We value parents as the first and best educators for their tamariki, which is why parents attend alongside their tamariki – to play, learn and grow together.

Whether you have a new pēpī, preschooler, or are new to a community, Playcentre provides a place for whānau and communities to come together.

If you care for tamariki aged 0-6, we invite you to visit and experience our affordable, unique, and child-led environment. Our centres encourage learning through free play and nurture imagination, confidence, and connection.

Our licensed early learning centres follow the Ministry of Education’s world-leading bicultural curriculum, Te Whāriki, offering 16 different areas of play set up to cater for different interests, skills, ages and abilities.

We also provide a free, NZQA-approved, adult education programme for enrolled whānau to add practical strategies and skills to your parenting toolbox.

We offer three visits before you enrol. Arrange a visit today and experience our supportive, fun and friendly community for yourself!
