We are a parent-lead early childhood education centre situated in Wainuiomata for all tamariki up to age 6.
‘Whānau tupu ngātahi , families growing together’ – We aim to empower adults and children to work, play, learn and grow together. Along with friendships, community and whanaungatanga you will have access to free adult education in Early Childhood Education.
Our tamariki learn through play and as parents and whanau, we are the best people to provide for the growing needs of our children. Under the guidance of our trained session facilitator, we engage in all sorts of messy play; making new friends and adventures; trips including staglands, zoo, apple picking, beaches, gymnastics. Their learning journey at Playcentre is all recorded in their very own profile book.
Playcentre is actively managed, operated and supervised by parents, mothers, fathers, grandparents, caregivers and other whānau (family) members.
Bush session
Our Friday sessions are held in the Wainuiomata Regional Park – usually along the Gums Loop Walk.
What do we do during bush session? We explore!
There are so many natural wonders and adventures for our tamariki to engage in: learning their independence through exploration, their sense of belonging in our world and our Playcentre whānau, their wellbeing by looking after themselves and our natural environment.
We often end up by the river watching the ducks float by or throwing rocks into the water. Some weeks we go blackberry picking, or exploring through the trees, or rolling down hills, or running around in the rain and puddles. We follow our tamariki’s lead as they know how to play best. A wonderful relaxing, fun and busy morning for tamariki and parents alike.

We are open during the four primary school terms on the following days.
(Note these may change during the year)
At Playcentre, early childhood education is a shared journey. We value parents as the first and best educators for their tamariki, which is why parents attend alongside their tamariki – to play, learn and grow together.
Whether you have a new pēpī, preschooler, or are new to a community, Playcentre provides a place for whānau and communities to come together.
If you care for tamariki aged 0-6, we invite you to visit and experience our affordable, unique, and child-led environment. Our centres encourage learning through free play and nurture imagination, confidence, and connection.
Our licensed early learning centres follow the Ministry of Education’s world-leading bicultural curriculum, Te Whāriki, offering 16 different areas of play set up to cater for different interests, skills, ages and abilities.
We also provide a free, NZQA-approved, adult education programme for enrolled whānau to add practical strategies and skills to your parenting toolbox.
We offer three visits before you enrol. Arrange a visit today and experience our supportive, fun and friendly community for yourself!
