Education Celebrations

Education celebrations have kicked off in the Lower and Upper North Island, with more to come over the next few weeks. It has been a real privilege to hear stories of the difference Playcentre Education has made to our ākonga learners. We have heard from learners who also had teenage children and didn’t think they could possibly learn anything from our modules amazed at the difference the learning made both at home and Playcentre. We heard from recent immigrants who didn’t feel confident in their parenting without their extended whānau family around them start to find their feet and feel confident in their relationship with their tamariki children. And we heard many stories of people finding their understanding of and sense of belonging at Playcentre grow so much stronger alongside their confidence as a parent.

Acknowledgement of Amanda Green’s Passing

Former education workshop facilitator Amanda Green sadly passed away on 5 September. Amanda had a huge passion for Playcentre and for supporting other parents, and the play workshops she ran were very popular. She was full of creative ideas for making learning fun. Although she had some significant health issues over the last few years, she chose to live positively and was constantly encouraging others to do the same.  As well as workshop facilitation she also worked as a Centre Support Worker and a Space Facilitator and was a valued member of Greenhithe Playcentre.  She was a dedicated wife and Mum to Matt, Ethan and Austin.
