Charities Annual Return – urgent action required

Playcentre Aotearoa is a charitable group which allows our organisation to produce one set of financial statements, rather than each centre having to do this.  Our charitable status also allows grants to be obtained for the benefit of centres.  To retain this status, Playcentre Aotearoa is required to complete an annual charities return, and there is one last action required before this is complete.

The charities return is now overdue, as completion of this last action needs to be done by individual centres.

The Playcentre Aoteaora charity group cannot complete its annual return until all centres update their officer details on the Charities website.  If you have not yet done this, please log-in to https://www.charities.govt.nz/ as soon as possible and Update Charity Details, add your current Officers, remove old Officers and submit the declaration.

If you don’t know your charity number, you can search the charities register from this page (a few centres are not charities, so if you don’t find your centre under its current or previous names, no further action is required). If you have don’t know your password, you can use the forgot password link to get a new one sent to your registered email (which should be your centre email).  If you have any other issues, please email [email protected] with the subject “Charities Return”.

Even if a branch agreement has been signed, centres still have an obligation to keep their charity details up to date until individual charities are wound up as part of the transition process.

Equity Funding Reporting – urgent action required

Playcentre Aotearoa are required to report to the Ministry of Education (MoE) on the Equity Funding our Playcentres received last year that ended in August 2024 (Nov 2023 – Jul 2024 bulk funding rounds).

For every Centre that received Equity Funding they must report on the funding received and how and why this funding was spent by the Centre.  Please note this information also needs to be provided to the Centre members/families.

In order to complete our reporting to the Ministry of Education we have created a simple online form for Centres who received equity funding to complete.  All eligible Centres have been sent a letter by email showing a breakdown of how much equity funding they received per category to assist you in completing the online form.

The deadline for completing this online form was Sunday 27th April 2025.  If this has not been completed, please do so as soon as possible.
