Funding for Playcentres

I am keen to share ‘Shout Out’s’ to any funder you would like to thank in future Bulletins. The Communications Manager and I would also be keen to feature some funding success stories in future Bulletins, on Facebook, in ‘The Little Villager’ and on the website. You can email me on [email protected] if you would like your centre to be included. Thank you to Tanya from Narrowneck Playcentre for this great idea!

Top Tip for September

** Although you can use the charity number of Playcentre Aotearoa for your applications, I would recommend centres look to become a charity in their own right. The process is very easy and can be found on the members section of the Playcentre website under ‘Grants’.

Becoming a charity in your own right shows funders that your centre is operating in your local community and some funders (e.g. NZCT) will only accept applications from registered charities or incorporated societies (I am still waiting to hear back from the Trustee Board about allowing more centres to become incorporated in their own right, so will update on this as soon as possible).

For those centres that are already a registered charity, I would recommend becoming part of the PCA group to avoid having to pay the annual fee and audit your accounts. It is also a good idea to make updating officer details with the Charities Services a point at your AGM so that this always gets actioned. **

Upcoming Funding Rounds
** Please note: Always check-in with individual funders BEFORE YOU APPLY. While every effort has been made to ensure information given is correct at the time of publication, funding availability and other details may change frequently. **

Aotearoa Gaming Trust – National – Always Open

https://www.agt.nz/funding/applying-for-funding

The Southern Trust have rebranded and are now called Aotearoa Gaming Trust. There are no set closing dates and most applications are processed within 20 working days, however, due to Covid restrictions, they are currently not accepting any new applications. Several funders will be taking this approach, so keep an eye on their websites for when they will start to accept applications again. It may take a while for funds in your area to build up again.

Len Reynolds Trust – Waikato – Always Open

https://www.lenreynoldstrust.co.nz/our-criteria/

You must be a registered charity to apply and they will read up about you on the Charities Services website. They actively seek out charities that are aligned with what they are trying to achieve, however you can also contact them to let them know what you do and talk to them about an application.

Discounts for Playcentres

This section contains information about discounts or offers for Centres. It does not constitute endorsement and these offers are not for individual members.

Coming soon is a “Discounts for Playcentres” page on the members section of the website. If you have a business you would like us to approach and ask for a discount for Playcentre, please email me on [email protected].

We are in the process of signing off an agreement with Red Cross that will provide centres with 10% off the retail cost for Essential, Comprehensive and Refresher first aid courses. More information to come soon.

If a centre member needs to complete first aid training, we would encourage you to consider using Red Cross. https://first-aid.redcross.org.nz/book-course/

Ecostore continue to honour the special arrangement with Playcentre whereby they make their products available to Playcentre at wholesale.

The wholesale rates especially for bulk sizes are a lot cheaper than the regular retail prices for Ecostore products so Centres are guaranteed a good deal.

Ecostore usually require an order minimum of $200 for wholesale orders and charge freight to deliver the products to wholesale customers.

Under their special Playcentre offer, the minimum order amount is reduced to $75 (very achievable) and they deliver the products to the Centre freight free nationwide.

Please note that they do require orders in full carton quantities if Centres are ordering our retail size products. This means you can’t just order one bottle of hand wash 425ml for example, but will have to take a whole box of 3 bottles.

This does NOT apply to the commercial 5L and 20L sizes which can be ordered as individual bottles.

To place a wholesale order centres will need to email their customer service team directly ([email protected]) – an online portal is being developed.

To become a wholesale customer of Ecostore, all the Centre has to do is contact our customer service team ([email protected]), complete the account application and then ensure that your order volume meets the $75 per order threshold. EASY!

Discounted rates for their reusable cups are available for Playcentres at $8.50 + GST per cup. In order to receive the discount, email Fiona McAllister (Office Manager) at [email protected].

To access discounts for products being used at your Playcentre, take a letter from your Playcentre explaining the paint project/expected paint/product needed (approximate is fine) into your local Resene owned ColorShop and ask for the EC41 Playcentre discount. The discount depends on the products you buy – your local Resene owned ColourShop will talk you through options.  E.g. for some, if you don’t care about the colour, you could look at mistints.
