Makarewa

Makarewa Playcentre is located at 63 Flora Road East, Makarewa. We boast a large indoor and outdoor space for children to enjoy many different play experiences. We are a parent run centre and are passionate about our children and their early learning.

Playcentre is for children 0-6 years old and follows the Early childhood curriculum – Te Whariki. We are a recognised ECE with the Ministry of Education and part of the NZ Playcentre Federation.

We are open three mornings a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) with a paid educator two mornings a week. Our sessions include many different activities ranging from baking, music sessions and sandpit play to blueberry picking, beach trips and exploring our community.

At Playcentre, children have the freedom to explore their natural world and become confident and competent learners. Playcentre offers everything children need to get ready for school years.

We offer 3 free visits to any family looking at joining our centre. We are an approved ECE with WINZ which means many families enjoy having their fees fully paid for.

At Playcentre, early childhood education is a shared journey. We value parents as the first and best educators for their tamariki, which is why parents attend alongside their tamariki – to play, learn and grow together.

Whether you have a new pēpī, preschooler, or are new to a community, Playcentre provides a place for whānau and communities to come together.

If you care for tamariki aged 0-6, we invite you to visit and experience our affordable, unique, and child-led environment. Our centres encourage learning through free play and nurture imagination, confidence, and connection.

Our licensed early learning centres follow the Ministry of Education’s world-leading bicultural curriculum, Te Whāriki, offering 16 different areas of play set up to cater for different interests, skills, ages and abilities.

We also provide a free, NZQA-approved, adult education programme for enrolled whānau to add practical strategies and skills to your parenting toolbox.
