Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa

A highlight for us this term was bringing together the Playcentre PLD camp held at Aongatete Outdoor Education Lodge in the CNI Region.
The weekend created a valuable opportunity for families to come together, strengthen their roles as leaders within Playcentre, explore ideas to enrich children’s learning, and engage in kōrero about future possibilities for collaboration between centres. Set in the beautiful surroundings of an outdoor education camp, the environment encouraged whānau to connect with te whenua. Ten diverse workshops were offered across the weekend, each designed to support the growth of cultural capability, deepen understanding of a localized curriculum, and inspire outdoor learning.
There was also time for leaders to kōrero about Playcentre’s new operating model, which shifts whānau focus away from administration and back towards teaching and learning. Alongside the PLD options, the Playcentre Education team delivered the PE4 Te Kākano module, focused on revitalizing te reo Māori, unpacking te ao Māori values, and understanding tikanga in a Playcentre context. Learners were encouraged to bring this learning to life by leading karakia and waiata throughout the weekend, fostering confidence and connection.
To support this mahi, Playcentre has a range of valuable resources online. Take a moment to explore these:

The PLD team has also been thrilled to roll out the new operational model PLD, and it’s been fantastic to see such a positive response and high levels of engagement right across the motu. It’s been inspiring to be a part of the rich kōrero and enthusiasm that this mahi has sparked in different regions.
In response to feedback and growing interest, we’ve also begun delivering a condensed version specifically for staff. This has been really well received, and we’re excited to continue building on this momentum in Term 3.
We’re looking forward to connecting with even more of you in the coming months—keep an eye on the July bulletin for upcoming dates and opportunities to get involved!
