Pathways and recognition

The Playcentre Introductory Award (PIA) is an informal, internal award accessible to all Playcentre parents, grandparents and caregivers. The PIA is designed to help whānau find their sense of belonging at Playcentre and equip whānau with the skills to support their children’s learning. It also supports Playcentres to meet licensing requirements.

The PIA is a prerequisite for entry to the NZ Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 4). Graduates of this formal certificate gain skills to become Playcentre educators, homebased educators, ECE support workers, or work in community services. The internal Playcentre Educator Award (PEA) is earned along the way to completing the certificate.
