Ki te pae tawhiti (amalgamation project)

In the past month you’ve heard the overview of our plan Ki te pae tawhiti, with the goal of achieving ‘more play, less admin’ for you at Centre level.

Trustee Board presentation and answers to your questions

In our presentation on May 16th we asked for you to engage with this plan, to send in your questions and feedback, and help us make sure we are on the right path. We’ve been thrilled, but not surprised, by the huge response we’ve received. Playcentre is well known for nurturing empowered, confident whānau, and it’s clear that tradition still lives on! We also appreciate that constructive feedback has overwhelmingly been delivered in a respectful way. This is much appreciated and gives us great hope that we can focus our collective energy in a positive way on finding a way forward. Here is a link to the questions and answers thus far.

One-page visual and video

We appreciate that there have been huge amounts of information to process around Ki te pae tawhiti, and realise it can all feel pretty overwhelming! We were impressed by this handy one-page visual created by one of our amazing Representatives, and thought busy Centre members might find it helpful. In addition, we’ve made a short video with an overview of Ki te pae tawhiti, which you can view on our website or view and share with others from the Playcentre Facebook group.

Summary sheets

Also, we’ve heard a need for further operational detail particularly regarding the proposed change to finances and the vision for the kaimahi role. Due to the sheer volume of similar questions, we’ve instructed our CE David Moger to hold off on answering any further questions on these points, and instead to refocus on providing one page summary sheets that we hope will answer all your questions in an easy to read format (we recognise that the Q and A page has gotten a bit unruly).

These summaries will be released this Friday, 10th June, and if you have any further questions or need clarification, we encourage you to attend the Q&A session for Centre members on Monday 13th June at 7:30pm, or the additional session on Wednesday 15th at 1pm. Registration is not required, please see zoom links below.

Rules Kapa Mahi

Nominations for the Rules Kapa Mahi closed on 1st June, and we thank all those who put themselves forward.

We are pleased to announce the names of those selected:

  • Te Whare Tikanga Māori – Liz Cribb, Lani Keung, Krista Mourant, Cynthia Murray and Annelies Vautier
  • Tangata Tiriti – Emily Bennet-Dowdeswell, Pia Bradshaw, Ruth Farrell, Peta Vassalini, Elspeth White

The Rules Kapa Mahi will be convening shortly, with the support of Co-Chairs Hayley Kirk-Smith and Heather Ruru. We wish them all the best with this important mahi.

Ngā hui ā-whare

It’s less than 2 weeks before representatives gather together in Wellington for our first face-to-face hui in two years! Yes, the proposed Trust Deed will be a significant focus for the hui, but there are other papers that we need centre and rōpū member feedback on such as Tangata Tiriti Trustee selection and Te Whare Tikanga Māori Rōpū SGM Voting Process and Succession Plan. You can find these papers in the Handbook.  Please share your feedback with your regional Representative whose contact details were emailed to your centre on Friday 20 May.

Tangata Tiriti Update

Thank you to everyone who sent in questions for the Tangata Tiriti nominees. The nominees’ answers are now available on our website.

Unfortunately, Kavita Budhia has decided to withdraw her nomination. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Kavita for putting herself forward and we wish her all the best for the future.

Matariki

This year marks the first time we as a nation will observe Matariki as a statutory holiday. Of course, Matariki has long been a feature within our organisation, and we trust that Centres across the motu will be bringing whānau together to celebrate in a variety of unique and wonderful ways. However you choose to mark the Māori New Year, we wish you and your Playcentre whānau good kai, good conversation, and good health. Thanks for reading!
