Kia ora koutou katoa! Nau mai haere mai! Welcome to Martinborough Playcentre!
We are a small, friendly centre located in the heart of Martinborough. Our families are from all over the South Wairarapa – from Featherston to Tora!
We provide unique and high quality learning experiences for young children and their families. Our sessions are mixed age and open to 0 – 6 year olds, with a focus on child initiated play. We offer great facilities, including a lovely wee garden and huge outdoor play area.
Martinborough Playcentre is a safe, supportive learning environment for children and adults alike, and is perfect for parents and whānau who wish to be involved in the early education of their child / children. Our children are supported to become confident, competent self-directed learners through play based around their interests. They gain knowledge through play, participation and positive guidance. Our children develop nurturing and social skills which have lifelong benefits. Siblings attend together, allowing older children to mentor younger children and practice empathy and caring.
There is no other organisation for early childhood education and family development quite like it in the world. Thousands of kiwi children, and their parents too, have grown up with Playcentre.
Feel free to drop in unannounced or get in touch – either way, we look forward to seeing you!

At Playcentre, early childhood education is a shared journey. We value parents as the first and best educators for their tamariki, which is why parents attend alongside their tamariki – to play, learn and grow together.
Whether you have a new pēpī, preschooler, or are new to a community, Playcentre provides a place for whānau and communities to come together.
If you care for tamariki aged 0-6, we invite you to visit and experience our affordable, unique, and child-led environment. Our centres encourage learning through free play and nurture imagination, confidence, and connection.
We also offer more specialised sessions where there is a real focus on the needs of newborns to 1 year olds, as well as the support and friendship of other new parents at our Space sessions.
Our licensed early learning centres follow the Ministry of Education’s world-leading bicultural curriculum, Te Whāriki, offering 16 different areas of play set up to cater for different interests, skills, ages and abilities.
We also provide a free, NZQA-approved, adult education programme for enrolled whānau to add practical strategies and skills to your parenting toolbox.
We offer three visits before you enrol. Arrange a visit today and experience our supportive, fun and friendly community for yourself!
