What we offer – PLD

Most of our current mahi sits under Ministry of Education-funded Strengthening Early Learning Opportunities (SELO) contracts.  Our current SELO3 contract to June 2025 focuses on

  • Embedding the Statement of National Education Learning Priorities (NELP) into practice at all levels of Playcentre
  • Implementing Te Whāriki and learning through play
  • Strengthening internal evaluation
  • Building pedagogical leaders within Playcentre, with generic Playcentre, Te Ao Māori and and Pacific strands.

About two thirds of our work is working directly with centres through centre-cluster programmes focussed on improving opportunities for children’s learning through internal evaluation.  The other third of our work is devoted to supporting Kaiako as pedagogical leaders i.e. leaders of teaching and learning and this mahi involves programmes for both centre leaders and employed staff.  These programmes are delivered regionally and rotated through geographic areas.

SELO1 programmes are Ministry-funded programmes for individual centres or groups of centres requiring extra support to meet licensing.  If you think your centre might benefit from this support, please contact your Centre Advisor or Regional Support Lead, who can then share the information with the PLD team if you are likely to meet the criteria.

When funding allows, Playcentre PLD offers a range of one-off and short course programmes on specific learning and leadership topics.  Note that this PLD is not part of the Playcentre Education certificate; they are short PLD sessions run for your own learning and benefit.

Playcentre PLD is also available to develop and deliver custom-designed PLD to Playcentres and other organisations.  Our facilitators have a range of skills, knowledge and areas of expertise.  If you would like to request in-house PLD for your Playcentre or organisation, please contact Rebecca Congalton, PLD Lead [email protected].
