E Tipu E Rea Mōteatea Video

This mōteatea was composed for Playcentre by Whaea Raina Ferris. Whaea Raina Ferris had a strong whānau upbringing in the heart of Ngāti Kere and is affiliated to Ngāti Kahungungu, Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāi Tahu. The mōteatea was presented and launched at the NZ Playcentre Federation (NZPF) Conference 2014. This recording was made at the 2015 NZPF Conference. Many thanks to the participants!

 

 

The English translation is as follows:

  1. Grow up oh little one, so you may become a strong person
  2. So that you will bring together our families, our wider families, our people
  3. Seek out, search out the knowledge of your ancestors
  4. So it will sustain you physically, mentally, and spiritually
  5. Honour the Treaty of Waitangi
  6. So that this will make us one people, and you will find your pathway
  7. Always pursue your absolute uniqueness and stand proud in it
  8. Grow up oh little one and become a strong person
