The Professional Learning & Development (PLD) Team offers a variety of learning and development opportunities for adults involved in Playcentre – both centre whānau and staff.
Please note: These are separate from the Playcentre Education courses which contribute to the NZ Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 4), which is a nationally recognised, NZQA-approved qualification.
PLD courses are normally short courses designed to foster your own professional and personal growth as part of your ongoing learning journey as kaiako.

Much of our mahi is funded through Ministry of Education Strengthening Early Learning Opportunities (SELO) contracts.
Focus areas:
About two-thirds of this mahi involves working directly with centres in centre-cluster programmes. These focus on improving children’s learning opportunities through strengthened internal evaluation.
The remaining third supports kaiako and centre leaders in their roles as pedagogical leaders (leaders of teaching and learning). These programmes are delivered regionally and rotate through different areas.
We can also offer Ministry-funded programmes which provide extra support to individual centres or groups of centres needing help to meet licensing requirements. If you think your centre might benefit, contact your Centre Advisor or Regional Support Lead, who can refer your request to the PLD team if it fits the criteria.
When funding allows, we also offer:
We can create and deliver PLD tailored to the unique needs of your Playcentre or organisation. Our facilitators bring a wide range of skills, knowledge, and expertise to support your goals.
