Regulatory Review Consultation
Under the new Government, a Regulatory Review Committee has been put together to review the regulatory systems for early childhood education, health, safety, child protection, food safety, buildings, and workplaces, as they apply to the early childhood education sector. This is an opportunity for Playcentre and Playcentre whānau to have their say on how these regulations impact us!
David Moger and Anna Steel will be meeting with David Warnsbough, Head of Sector Reviews from the Ministry of Regulations to discuss the best way for us to have our voices heard. Look out for an email soon. This is an exciting time as we have the opportunity to shape the Regulations that impact us as a Ministry Funded ECE.
National Volunteer Week – Thank you to Playcentre volunteers
As we start National Volunteer Week, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all our parent volunteers for your significant contribution to your Playcentre community.
Your commitment to the Playcentre philosophy, which values parents as the first and best educators for their tamariki, is what makes Playcentre unique.
The support that our parent volunteers provide to other parent volunteers, tamariki and pēpi is instrumental in building a strong and thriving Playcentre community.
To celebrate National Volunteer Week (16-22 June), we want to recognise the collective energies and mana of all our Playcentre parent volunteers across Aotearoa by sharing some of the nominations we have received for Volunteer of the Month.
These nominations for Volunteer of the Month demonstrate the positive impact Playcentre parent volunteers have on the lives of other parents, whānau and tamariki at Playcentre throughout Aotearoa:
- Thank you, Clare Brown, New Windsor Playcentre – “There is no person at our centre she hasn’t helped with something.”
- Thank you, Debra Chamberlain-Brown, Te Puke Playcentre – “All members of Te Puke Playcentre would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Debra for everything she has done for our community.”
- Thank you, Samantha Stocker, Pleasant Point Playcentre – “She encourages each parent to immerse themselves in Playcentre and also supports them in their parenting journeys and shows them love and support as we all ride this roller coaster together.”
- Thank you, Katie Prescott and Renee Smith, Mount Maunganui Playcentre – “They are equally so passionate and invested, always going the extra mile and giving so much to the centre and wider community.”
We encourage you to read these nominations, which showcase the important role Playcentre parent volunteers play in supporting each other to build strong whānau and community connections across the motu.

Our Playcentre communities could not function without all our amazing parent volunteers, as well as our paid staff working together.
Ki te kotahi te kakaho ka whati, ki te kapuia, e kore e whati. When we stand alone, we are vulnerable, but together we are unbreakable.
Ngā mihi nui,
David Moger, Chief Executive
