Learning through Play workshops

Playcentre Education, Playcentre PLD and the Centre Advisor teams are excited to be bringing over 75 “Learning through Play” workshops to centres in Term 3. These workshops will inspire you with new ideas to support children’s play and learning at your Playcentre and at home.

Play Workshops – Upper North Island
Play Workshop – Central North Island
Play Workshops – Lower North Island
Play Workshops – Upper South Island
Play Workshops – Lower South Island

Workshops are open to all Playcentre whānau, whether you’ve been at Playcentre a week or a decade. Most of the workshops can be utilised for the Playcentre Education B401 play workshop. From next year, the education programme will include more play workshops in both the B-series and C-series modules – this is an opportunity to get a step ahead!

Babies are welcome at all workshops. We ask that you find alternative childcare options for toddlers and older children where possible for workshops running at the weekends or evenings. The primary focus for these workshops is for adults and fewer children enables adults to better focus and explore play themselves.

Workshop registrations are being collected by region. You will receive confirmation of your bookings approx. one week before the workshop(s). Please check your email before you attend in case of any last-minute cancellations – there are still a number of illnesses doing the rounds. We ask that participants wear masks when indoors at workshops and stay home if unwell.

While we able to offer 75 workshops this term, we know that we haven’t reached all corners of NZ and will do our best to add more play workshops in Term 4 for other parts of the country.

Webinar: Ngā tohu whānau – the 6 principles

Join Tākai at 10am Wednesday 17 August for a free webinar on ngā tohu whānau – the 6 things children need to grow up to be happy, capable adults. The 6 principles come from New Zealand research The Discipline and Guidance of Children.

Although based on relationships between parents and children, the 6 principles are also effective for building positive relationships with anyone, anywhere – home, early childhood centres, classrooms, and workplaces.

Jason Tiatia (Brainwave Trust Aotearoa), Anna Mowat (Real Collective) and Lynette Archer (Woven Whānau Whanganui) will share how they weave the principles into their mahi and have conversations about conscious parenting with whānau.

There’ll be a chance to ask pātai and explore recommended resources.
