Centre-paid employee

If your centre has, or is thinking about having, a Centre-paid employee here are a few key points that you need to be aware of:

  • If you are thinking of making any changes to the employees conditions – change of hours, payrise, closing a session, etc, then you need to get in touch with your Centre Advisor (when yours is appointed) or your Regional Support Lead FIRST before discussing anything with the employee, or in any detail in the centre.
  • Centres cannot make any changes to the employees conditions, this must be done by the regional office who will consult HR where necessary.
  • Employment procedures are included with the Policy and Procedure folder – please ensure you read these and follow them for any activities to do with employees in future.

Unfair Disadvantage: As we are now one national organisation, with Playcentre Aotearoa being the employer for all the employees, we need to ensure that employees in similar roles are given similar opportunities and benefits. This means that centres cannot offer higher payrates, additional allowances, bonuses or other benefits to the employees working in their centre that are out of line with what is being offered to other employees in similar roles.

This is particularly relevant in relation to Session Facilitators or Session Support Workers who need to move to the new qualification levels. Whilst we understand and appreciate that centres may want to offer financial support or incentives to the employees in their centre, this cannot be done as it could be seen as unfairly disadvantaging those employees in other centres who are not receiving the same offer.

Reminder:  It is important that an employee’s right to privacy is respected at all times.
