Strengthening Early Learning Opportunities programmes
In July the PLD team started a new contract with the Ministry of Education that will support professional learning and development in Playcentre for the next three years. The programmes provided within the contract are known as SELO – Strengthening Early Learning Opportunities programmes.
The outcomes of SELO programmes include:
- Embedding the Statement of National Education and Learning Priorities (NELP) into practice at all levels of Playcentre Aotearoa (national, regional and local centres)
- Supporting Playcentre whānau to be kaiako on Playcentre sessions, including implementing Te Whāriki and learning through play
- Maintaining and strengthening a culture of review through internal evaluation
- Building pedagogical leadership at all levels of Playcentre
There are four types of programmes offered including
- Cluster
- Playcentre
- Te Ao Māori and
- Pacific leadership programmes
Cluster programmes involve working with a group of Playcentres to support an internal evaluation in each centre. Leadership programmes support the development of pedagogical leadership in Playcentres with particular focus on Playcentre philosophy, Te Ao Māori or Pacific approaches.
The PLD team works with the regional teams to identify centres and groups to work with. PLD facilitators often introduce themselves and the programmes in Term 4 with the main work happening in Terms 1 and 2. We currently have 8 programmes up and running or complete.
We look forward to working with you again in the New Year. The PLD team wish you all a happy and safe summer holiday break! Ngā mihi matakuikui o te raumati!
