Purpose of the position:

Space is an amazing programme that gives new parents that ‘village’ they need to help raise their baby. Many Space members move on to become Playcentre families.

We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Casual Programme Facilitators to join our team in the Canterbury region. You will assist in the delivery of the Space Programme and work with babies and their whānau, ensuring participants are supported to build relationships with each other. As a Casual Programme Facilitator, you and your co-facilitator will help parents and their babies connect with other new parents while exploring parenting, children’s development and most importantly, play, in a safe environment.

Location:

Various Playcentres across the Canterbury region. We especially need casual relievers willing and able to relieve in Rangiora, Woodend, and Selwyn areas. 

Days & hours:

Mondays to Fridays with session times varying between 9.00am and 3.30pm.  This is a casual position, during school term time only. However, for the right person, this could develop into permanent part-time hours as demand for additional programmes increases. 

This role could be filled by multiple candidates. We will begin reviewing applications upon receipt.

The candidate must:

  • Have completed PIA, PEA, or Playcentre Course 3, an equivalent ECE qualification, or higher, or be currently enrolled in Playcentre Education.
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate or be prepared to complete this.
  • Be prepared to facilitate across multiple centres.
  • Be prepared to complete the Space at Heart on-line training that takes approx. 4-6 hours. You will need to do this in your own time.

Desirable skills and experience will include:

  • A passion for working with new babies alongside parents and caregivers
  • Knowledge and understanding of the value of Playcentre and its philosophy, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and using Te Reo on session; and how to apply Te Whāriki
  • Having great interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence speaking within a group. Is warm and welcoming, an excellent listener and empathetic.
  • Having completed prior Babies Can Play training will be advantageous but is not necessary.
