We’re seeking a vibrant, motivated, creative, and passionate educator with a sparkling personality to join our well-resourced centre to support our tamariki, parents and whānau in facilitating child led play. 

Lower Hutt Playcentre are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Session Facilitator to join our well-resourced and vibrant Playcentre Community. You will work alongside our members and tamariki to guide session activities, facilitate learning using child led play and positive guidance, support planning and assessment for learning and positively support the Playcentre education programme. You will be a leader who encourages others to thrive; you will model Playcentre philosophy and good practice while supporting whanau to gain confidence to have a go themselves.

Days & hours:

This vacancy is a combination of permanent and fixed term positions, during school term time only. The following positions are to be filled by the successful candidate/s. Candidates can apply for one or more of the positions:

  • A permanent position for Tuesdays 9.00am – 12.00pm, with a fixed term component from 12.00 to 1.30pm from April 29th to July 5th (Term 2). 

We will begin interviewing suitable candidates as applications come in and could appoint to this position before the application period has closed.

The ideal candidate must have the following:

  • The Playcentre C3 qualification or the New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care L4 or a higher ECE qualification or a Primary Teaching qualification and the Playcentre Primary Teacher Bridging Award, for licencing purposes.

Desirable skills and experience will include:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Whāriki and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. 
  • A passion for Playcentre and our philosophy. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with tamariki and adults. 
  • An ability to support and empower parents, whānau and caregivers in their role as kaiako.
  • A willingness to upskill and meet new Playcentre qualification requirements as required; Confidence when speaking within a group.
  • A passion for supporting Te Reo Māori and tikanga and engaging all whānau to feel a sense of belonging on our session.
