Murchison Playcentre are seeking a vibrant, motivated, creative and passionate educator with a sparkling personality to join our rural centre and support our tamariki, parents and whānau in leading great sessions.

Purpose of the position:

To work alongside our members to open the sessions and guide activities, facilitate learning for our members and tamariki while role modelling child led play and positive guidance. Encourage participation in the Playcentre Education programme to increase qualification levels at our centre, and demonstrate the benefits of participating to whānau. Let your inner author shine or put those stellar scrapbooking to skills to work writing leaning stories highlighting tamariki achievements, developments, learning and wonders.

Position location:

Murchison Playcentre, Waller Street, Murchison

Hours:

10.5 hours per week – 3 sessions per week – Monday, Wednesday & Thursday mornings. During school term time only.

 The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Playcentre Course 3 qualification or higher, or an Early Childhood qualification;
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate; or be prepared to achieve this.

Desirable skills and experience will include:

  • A passion for Playcentre and our philosophy;
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to apply Te Whariki and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi;
  • Great time management and with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and experience at centre level communicating with both tamariki and adults;
  • An ability to support and empower parents, whanau and caregivers in their role as Kaiako.
  • A willingness to upskill and meet new Playcentre qualification requirements as required;
  • Confidence when speaking within a group.
  • A passion for supporting Te Reo Māori and tikanga, and engaging all whānau to feel a sense of belonging on our session.
