Palmerston Playcentre in North Otago would like to extend our sincere thanks and acknowledgement to the Otago Community Trust, The Lion Foundation, Waitaki District Council, Kiwi Gaming Foundation, and Oceana Gold for their very significant contributions to our playground upgrade project. You have made a real difference for the pre-school children in our community, and we are very grateful.

I’m sure you know the story of the Little Yellow Digger, when the weather turns quite nasty and it pours with rain, and the digger gets stuck in the mud. This very thing happened in our playground at! We were getting a soft fall surface installed in our playground under the fort and slide, and the digger was working in the rain and got stuck in the mud! The project turned out much bigger than we expected, and there was a lot of mud!

But after the first few hiccups, the project really started to move ahead, and a new slide, tunnel, and climbing net were installed, the existing fort and woodwork were stained, and the lovely colourful surface was laid, just in time for the end of term holidays! But the tamariki have been visiting over the holidays, and Ariya said she likes the “climbing bits” and Mason said he really liked “the yellow and blue”. He also liked going down the slide, and through the tunnel.

Thanks also to SGC Projects for the great job you have done and shout out to Dan and James for being such understanding workers on site – friendly, polite, and happy to throw back the odd ball that made its way over the safety fence!

A very big thank you to Liz Paton and the Playcentre families who worked hard on this project for a long time and thank you so much to the Palmerston community for supporting our fundraising efforts.
