Welcome new facilitators

This term the Playcentre PLD team welcomes three new facilitators to the team – Alan Somerville (Lower South Island), Deacon Andrews (Upper North Island) and Jean Yern (Central North Island).  All three facilitators bring with them Playcentre experience – Deacon and Jean are currently Kaihononga Māori and will be faciliting te reo Māori PLD programmes in Term 2.  Alan is returning to Playcentre after working in the wider ECE sector for a number of years.  Alan has a long involvement with the Otago Playcentre Association in many roles – Tutor, Centre Support, Association President and more.

Farewell Sue Leng

E kore te kūmara e kī ake ki a ia ha māngaro, The kūmara does not announce it is tasty (be humble)

Playcentre PLD and Education are farewelling Sue Leng as a facilitator and tutor.  Many Playcentre members in the Central North Island will have benefited from Sue’s wealth of knowledge and gentle way of empowering whānau while staying out of the spotlight herself – a Playcentre kūmara.  Play and Te Ao Māori are Sue’s passions and she is well known in the wider Waikato for her fire workshops and her trusted van of play resources that was pretty much a Playcentre on wheels!  Sue has been involved in Playcentre as a kaiako for over 50 years, which must be in the running for a world record.  We wish her all the best in her retirement.
