Balfour Playcentre

Balfour Playcentre is parent led and provides two morning sessions each week, for children up to school age.

Sessions are led by an experienced, paid educator with the help of members.

The building is situated on the Balfour School grounds and we have a strong relationship with the staff and children of the school.

The implementation of the Te Whariki Early Childhood curriculum means 16 areas of play of integrated with the core subjects to provide emerging and spontaneous work/play that allow progress for the individuals to be monitored, guided and advanced at their own level and needs. Our centre is well resourced with lots of great learning tools, toys and everything needed for your child to have fun!

We are a unique facility as we also house the Balfour Plunket Clinic. We aim to provide a warm and inviting space for families with new born babies and in due course hope that these babies will join our Playcentre Whanua.

We warmly invite you to visit our wonderful little centre!

At Playcentre, early childhood education is a shared journey. We value parents as the first and best educators for their tamariki, which is why parents attend alongside their tamariki – to play, learn and grow together.

Whether you have a new pēpī, preschooler, or are new to a community, Playcentre provides a place for whānau and communities to come together.

If you care for tamariki aged 0-6, we invite you to visit and experience our affordable, unique, and child-led environment. Our centres encourage learning through free play and nurture imagination, confidence, and connection.

Our licensed early learning centres follow the Ministry of Education’s world-leading bicultural curriculum, Te Whāriki, offering 16 different areas of play set up to cater for different interests, skills, ages and abilities.

We also provide a free, NZQA-approved, adult education programme for enrolled whānau to add practical strategies and skills to your parenting toolbox.

We offer three visits before you enrol. Arrange a visit today and experience our supportive, fun and friendly community for yourself!
